EPA approves PureField Ingredients carbon capture project in Kansas
EPA Region VII has issued a draft Class VI UIC permit to PureField Carbon Capture for a single CO₂ injection well (CCS #1) in Russell County, Kansas
PureField Carbon Capture’s Russell CO₂ Storage Project is designed to inject up to 150,000 metric tons of CO₂ per year for 12 years, totaling 1.8 million metric tons of permanent storage. Daily injection is expected to average ~433 metric tons, with peak rates up to ~563 metric tons, supported by conservative pressure limits and reservoir modeling that confines the project footprint to roughly 3.1 square miles
The project will inject CO₂ captured from ethanol fermentation at the PureField Ingredients facility into the Arbuckle Group at depths of approximately 3,448–3,606 feet, with multiple confining zones including the Upper Arbuckle and Heebner Shale to protect drinking water resources
Following injection, the site will enter post-injection monitoring for at least 50 years, after which formal site closure and deed notice requirements apply

Encyclis progresses UK Waste-to-Energy CCS Project in Chesire
Encyclis has secured planning permission to develop a full-scale carbon capture facility at the Rookery South Energy Recovery Facility in Bedfordshire, enabling the capture of CO₂ from flue gases generated during waste-to-energy operations.
The approval marks an important step in decarbonising the UK energy-from-waste sector and advancing Encyclis’ broader CCS strategy. In parallel, Encyclis has signed a landmark agreement with the UK government to deliver the country’s first full-scale carbon capture project at an energy-from-waste plant at the Protos Energy Recovery Facility.
The Protos CCS project is expected to capture approximately 370,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year, with the captured emissions transported via pipeline for permanent offshore storage in Liverpool Bay as part of the HyNet industrial decarbonisation cluster.
Around half of the captured CO₂ is expected to be biogenic, giving the project the potential to deliver net-negative emissions
Denmark greenlights INEOS’ Greensand carbon storage project
The Danish Energy Agency has granted approval for Denmark’s first full-scale CO₂ storage facility, authorizing the Greensand Future project to use the Nini West field in the Danish North Sea for geological CO₂ storage
The permit allows up to 2.4 million tonnes of CO₂ to be stored over a 30-year period and represents the first such approval in Denmark’s history
The project is led by INEOS E&P, Harbour Energy, and Nordsøfonden and builds on earlier pilot success, including the first CO₂ injection on the Danish continental shelf in 2023.
The storage reservoir lies about 1,700–1,800 m below the seabed and reuses existing infrastructure from the former Nini-A oil and gas field.
Operation is expected to begin around mid-2026, and the site will be a key part of developing Denmark’s CCS value chain and broader climate strategy

Chevron submits ‘Pascagoula’ carbon storage application
Chevron continues to expand its industrial decarbonization footprint with the recent Class VI carbon storage permit application for the Pascagoula CCS project in Jackson County, Mississippi near Vancleave.
This three well development is designed to serve as a regional CO₂ hub, enabling decarbonization of Chevron’s Pascagoula Refinery, the company’s largest US refinery, as well as nearby industrial emitters. The Pascagoula facility processes about 369,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
Beyond supporting decarbonization at Pascagoula, this project also reinforces Chevron’s broader CCS commitment across its assets including Bayou Bend in Texas and Kern River in California.
This also marks the only active Class VI permit application in Mississippi
