CarbonStorage.io Just Got an Upgrade – Meet v2.0
The Low Carbon Briefing

We’re excited to officially announce the launch of CarbonStorage.io V2.
Following a successful debut in January, we've received valuable feedback from our users—leading to the development of new features and deeper market insights.
With this latest version, CarbonStorage.io now tracks all global low-carbon projects across carbon capture, transportation, sequestration, carbon utilization, hydrogen and the voluntary carbon market. From early announcements to project operations, you’ll find comprehensive news, permitting data, and key project details all in one place.
Our mission is to be the go-to integrated platform for intelligence and development in the carbon space. We understand it’s a crowded field—but we’re proud to support everyone from project developers and EPCs to corporate development teams, consultants, investors, and asset managers.
And for our curious readers—if you're interested in a demo or just want to explore what we offer, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’d love to hear from you.

Development Activity
U.S. Energy Corp acquired 2,300 acres for CO2 sequestration from their flagship helium facility in either Toole or Glacier County, Montana
Trillium submitted a 5 well Class VI application for Pike County, Ohio. ‘'A U.S. first-of-a-kind installation integrating the production of ammonia, liquid nitrogen, and dispatchable electric power, all utilizing hydrogen. The hydrogen is produced through an air separation unit, a partial oxidation methane reformer, with carbon capture, utilization, and storage'
Tenaska submitted a 1 well Class VI project in Coshocton County, Ohio as an extension to their Buckeye development
Natural State Renewables submitted a 4 well Class VI application in Ouachita, Arkansas. NSR plans to produce SAF from woody biomass and sequester biogenic CO2.
Calpine and ExxonMobil ink 2 million ton per year CCS agreement
ExxonMobil will transport and store up to 2 million metric tons of CO2 annually from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center, a cogeneration facility located near Houston
This marks ExxonMobil’s 6th customer to bring the total committed CO2 to 16 million tons per year
Calpine is leading the U.S. in carbon capture projects to decarbonize their natural gas power generation fleet - including Quail Run Energy Center in the Permian and Sutter Plant in California (Transportation and storage seemingly is led by Oxy).
DOE’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) awarded Calpine $270 million for cost sharing in July 2024 for the carbon capture project
There is significant risk in project FID as natural gas post-combustion carbon capture requires additionally funding in excess of 45Q unless there is power offtake premium to end customer. The OCED is currently being targeted by DOGE with headcount reduction and funding uncertainty.
Carbon Removal incubator XPRIZE awards $100 million
XPRIZE, the global leader in large-scale incentive competitions, awarded the $100 million Carbon Removal prize to teams that developed scalable, high-quality solutions capable of durably removing over 1,000 tonnes of CO2
Mati Carbon ($50M) accelerates the natural process of rock weathering (ERW) by applying pulverized basalt to croplands of partnered smallholder farmers free of charge. As the pulverized basalt weathers, it removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Meanwhile, the weathering process releases nutrients from the rock which acts to re-mineralize depleted agricultural soils. This increases crop yields and thus smallholder farmers’ incomes
NetZero ($15M) produces biochar exclusively from renewable agricultural residues—such as coffee and cocoa husks, sugarcane bagasse, coconut fibers, and palm empty bunches—using pyrolysis, a high-heat, oxygen-free process that creates a stable solid ideal for agricultural use when mixed with topsoil.
Vaulted Deep ($8M) uses proven bioslurry injection technology to securely store excess organic waste deep underground in geological formations that naturally contain materials for millions of years, effectively removing carbon and preventing emissions.
UNDO Carbon ($5M) leverages enhanced rock weathering by distributing fast-weathering, nutrient-rich silicate rock fines on farmland
Aircapture and 44.01 ($1M) for Project Hajar that integrates Aircapture's modular DAC units with 44.01's carbon mineralization technology, which permanently sequesters atmospheric CO2 by converting it into rock within subsurface geological formations

P2X Solutions produces first synthetic natural gas molecules in Finland
P2X Solutions successfully commissioned their green hydrogen facility in March, and produced the first e-NG molecules through methanation process this week
Methanation or the Sabatier process produces synthetic natural gas by combing CO2 and green hydrogen, the product ultimately is carbon neutral or single digit carbon intensity if sourced with biogenic CO2.
Technology and partners include Sunfire for the 20 MW electrolyzers and Q Power for the methanation unit
This milestone achievement signifies that the Electrolysis-Methanation integration is commercially feasible as well as establishing a market for synthetic fuels for Europe

Oxy buys Nashville-based Direct Air Capture Holocene
ArcelorMittal: "Green hydrogen is not yet a viable fuel source, natural gas based DRI production in Europe is not competitive as an interim solution, and CCS infrastructure is still in the planning stage - even in markets with a carbon price, gas-based DRI “struggles to compete” with coal-fired blast furnaces"
North Dakota Supreme Court Hears Challenge to CO2 Storage Unitization Law
INPEX-led (TotalEnergies (26%) and Woodside (21%) equity-stake) 6.8 million acre carbon storage project in Northern Australia begins pre-feed.
Equinor suspends offshore construction activities for the 2.1 GW Empire Wind offshore project
French government signs off on €149m grant for Lhyfe's 100MW green hydrogen project in Le Havre
Airbus is pulling the brakes on its hydrogen-jet project after spending more than $1.7 billion, adding to a wider corporate rethink of green plans
Electrolyer OEM, Plug Power, is in danger of Nasdaq delisting after share price falls below $1
Saipem wins $590 million award for Liverpool CCS development
